The French newspaper L'Équipe revealed that the French Football Federation has taken official steps to appoint Zinedine Zidane as the head coach of the French national team, following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup finals scheduled to take place next summer.

According to the report, Didier Deschamps will leave his position as coach of the French national team after the conclusion of the World Cup, opening the door for a new era at the helm of the French team's technical staff.

Zidane has been away from coaching since his departure from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021, despite his name being linked to many major projects over the past few years.

Zidane is considered one of the most successful coaches in the history of Real Madrid, having achieved unprecedented accomplishments, most notably winning three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles, as well as two La Liga titles, two UEFA Super Cups, two Spanish Super Cups, and two FIFA Club World Cups.

Although his name has been mentioned several times in connection with returning to coach Real Madrid, all indications point to Zidane's next destination being the French national team, where he will begin a new challenge at the international level following the World Cup.
