Besiktas Continues to Monitor Real Madrid Defender
Friday 16-01-2026
Spanish newspaper 'AS' confirmed that Turkish club Besiktas is seeking to sign Austrian defender David Alaba from Real Madrid, with the club's recruitment official stating that negotiations are progressing, while coach Sergen Yalcin indicated the near completion of two or three deals among the team's priorities.

Alaba, 33 years old, is considered an available option for Real Madrid after a series of injuries lasting about a year that caused a decline in the player's performance, in addition to his high salary of 14 million euros annually, which poses an obstacle to any potential transfer unless he agrees to a significant reduction.

Besiktas faces clear financial difficulties, as it cannot afford Alaba's full salary or even half of it, approximately 7 million euros for the remaining six months of the season, making the deal complicated and requiring Real Madrid's approval to bear the majority of his salary.

The stadium factor adds another element related to Alaba's affiliation, as he is known to support Galatasaray, Besiktas's traditional rival, which arouses fans' interest and increases the sensitivity of the deal within Turkey, while the player's father refrained from commenting on this interest.

Alaba's future remains open between Besiktas and Real Madrid, with ongoing negotiations and careful monitoring of developments, amid the Turkish club's desire to strengthen its defense with a player of significant European experience.
