Bono: Happy to Contribute to Reaching the Final
Yassine Bono, the goalkeeper of the Moroccan national team, expressed his great happiness at the Atlas Lions' qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations final, after defeating the Nigerian team 4-2 in a penalty shootout, following a goalless draw at the end of regular time in the tournament's semifinal.
Bono said, after being named the best player of the match: "I would like to congratulate all my teammates; they played well. We were smart and managed to hold on, waiting until the Nigerian team started to struggle physically a bit. That's when our team was able to impose its style better. It was a tough match against a strong opponent."
The Moroccan goalkeeper added: "The match was largely balanced, and in such games, the details make the difference. In the end, it was the penalty shootout that gave us the victory and qualified us for the final."
Bono stood out remarkably, saving two decisive penalty kicks to rightfully lead the Moroccan national team to the final.
The Moroccan national team is scheduled to meet their Senegalese counterparts next Sunday at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in the capital, Rabat, in a highly anticipated final where the "Atlas Lions" will strive to win the continental championship title.
