Barcelona Surpasses Real Madrid in La Liga Viewership Ratings

The Spanish newspaper 'Sport' revealed that Barcelona topped the list of the most-watched La Liga clubs on television screens during the first half of the season, narrowly surpassing their traditional rival Real Madrid. The average number of viewers for Barcelona's matches reached 1.658 million compared to 1.656 million for Real Madrid, a difference of only 2,000 viewers.

The newspaper explained that Atlético Madrid ranked third with an average of 965,000 viewers, while Real Betis and Athletic Bilbao completed the top five clubs with viewing rates of 743,000 and 665,000 respectively. Valencia occupied sixth place with 661,000 viewers.

On the other hand, Alavés, Levante, and Mallorca recorded the lowest average viewership during the first 19 rounds of the league, with Alavés averaging 538,000 viewers, Levante 520,000 (with a postponed match against Villarreal), and Mallorca at the bottom with 505,000 viewers.

The newspaper added that Barcelona also topped the list of cumulative unique viewers during the season, having been watched by 7.8 million viewers, compared to 7.6 million for Real Madrid. Rayo Vallecano ranked fifth with 4.6 million viewers, ahead of major clubs such as Sevilla, Athletic Bilbao, and Valencia.

The most-watched matches since the season started belonged to the two giants, with El Clásico attracting about 2.9 million unique viewers, followed by the Barcelona vs. Atlético Madrid match with 2.3 million viewers, then Deportivo Alavés vs. Real Madrid with 2.1 million, and Elche vs. Real Madrid with 2.05 million unique viewers, according to the Spanish newspaper Sport.
