Monday 12-01-2026
Diego Simeone, Atlético Madrid's coach, apologized to Vinicius Junior, Real Madrid's star player, and Florentino Perez, the president of the royal club, after the altercation that took place between him and the Brazilian player during the recent match between the two teams.

Real Madrid qualified for the Spanish Super Cup final after defeating Atlético Madrid 2-1 in the semifinal last Thursday, before losing the final 3-2 to Barcelona.

The semifinal match witnessed a verbal dispute between Simeone and Vinicius as the player was leaving the field, where the Atlético coach said: "Florentino Perez will fire you."

Simeone commented, saying: "First, I want to apologize to Florentino and Vinicius for the incident they witnessed."

He added: "It is not right for me to put myself in this position and accept it. Clearly, I was not right, and the team that wins deserves to qualify."

Simeone refused to comment on the criticism from Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid's coach, who described his behavior as unsportsmanlike, saying: "I have nothing to add."
