Will Vinícius Regain His Spark in El Clásico?
Saturday 10-01-2026
Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior is not living his best moments ever, as his current performance does not match what he delivered in previous seasons. In fact, recently he has been more notable for his off-field issues, such as his altercation with Diego Simeone in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final, rather than his artistic imprint on the pitch. Clear evidence of this is that Hans Flick did not receive any questions about him during the press conference before the final.

The German coach's conference before the anticipated final lasted about fifteen minutes, during which he received 15 questions, none of which were related to the Brazilian Real Madrid player. On the other hand, he was asked several questions about Mbappé. The absence of questions regarding Vinícius is a clear indicator of his declining form and that his presence no longer causes the same concern among opponents.

The 25-year-old Vinícius has played 22 Clásico matches, achieving 11 wins, one draw, and 10 losses. He scored seven goals, most notably his famous hat-trick in the Spanish Super Cup final in January 2024, which was decisive in Real Madrid's 4-1 victory.

The Brazilian star has not scored in the last five matches against Barcelona, despite starting in all of them. He also received three yellow cards during those games, bringing his total cards against the Catalan team to eight.

This season, Vinícius has participated in 26 matches with Real Madrid across various competitions, scoring five goals and providing eight assists. However, his numbers in La Liga are worrying, as he has not scored in 11 consecutive matches and has yet to find the net in the Champions League.

Unlike Flick, Xabi Alonso received several questions about Vinícius's condition and current status. The Spanish coach admitted that the Brazilian international is not living his best period but expressed confidence in his strong comeback, saying: "It's a matter of time. He will return to his great level and will be decisive. We need him tomorrow without fail."
