Dean Hausen.. A Puzzle That Puzzles Real Madrid
Sunday 11-01-2026
One day after Atlético Madrid advanced to the final of the Spanish Super Cup, Real Madrid players held a closed training session at the King Abdullah Sports City complex in Jeddah. Among the injured and unavailable players, the name of young defender Dean Hansen (20 years old), one of the team's most notable signings in last summer's transfer window, stood out.

The Spanish defender of Dutch origin has not been able to appear with the team in 2026 so far, as he missed the match against Real Betis at the start of the year and also did not participate against Atlético Madrid, instead watching the game from the bench.

Despite Hausen's reputation for his calmness in building play and his ability to pass the ball between the lines, he has participated in only three of the last ten matches played by the royal team. This figure raises questions, especially given the absence of any new official medical report since his injury last October, when he was diagnosed with a muscle tear in the soleus muscle of his left leg, which at that time prevented him from joining the Spanish national team.

Hausen later returned to the "La Roja" camp in November but did not play a single minute, as it was decided in consultation with coach Luis de la Fuente to stop his participation to avoid worsening the injury. After returning to Real Madrid, he played in a match against Elche and was decisive by scoring the first goal, but he finished the game experiencing muscle pain, which persisted throughout the last weeks of 2025 and extended into the beginning of the new year.

Since then, the young defender has missed four La Liga matches against Girona, Athletic Bilbao, Celta Vigo, and Betis, in addition to two Champions League games against Olympiacos and Manchester City, as well as the Super Cup semi-final against Atlético. On the other hand, mid-December saw a relatively quiet period, during which he played a few minutes against Alavés, then completed the full match in the Copa del Rey against Talavera, before starting against Sevilla in the last game of the year.

When he was expected to be ready to face Real Betis, increased workload prevented that, as he only trained in the gym during the final session before the match, which was an unsettling sign.

Currently, Hawssen is training with the team in Jeddah, awaiting medical and technical clearance, at a time when Real Madrid is struggling with numerous injuries, which makes his readiness even more crucial ahead of the upcoming critical phase.
