Schlotterbeck Decides on Contract Renewal with Dortmund
Friday 09-01-2026
The Spanish newspaper "Sport" reported that German defender Nico Schlotterbeck has decided not to renew his contract with Borussia Dortmund, prompting the German club to prepare to sell him during the upcoming summer transfer window to avoid losing him for free in 2027.

The newspaper pointed out that Dortmund prefers Schlotterbeck to transfer to a club outside Germany. Although Bayern Munich showed interest in him, opportunities in Munich have become nearly closed due to the imminent renewal of Upamecano's contract, making Real Madrid emerge as the main option to sign the German defender.

According to the German newspaper "Bild," Real Madrid is ready to pay 50 million euros to acquire the services of Schlotterbeck, who is considered one of the best defenders on the market. Meanwhile, Barcelona's management has been monitoring the player for their future project due to his playing style that fits well with the team, his ability to carry the ball out, and his strong personality.

This interest comes despite the fact that Barcelona had placed Schlottterbeck on their priority list. However, German sources indicate that the Catalan club's chances of competing for the player seem limited, while the player is inclined to join Real Madrid to play in the Champions League and be part of a bigger project.
