Algerian Defender on the Verge of Joining Al-Shorta

Monday 05-01-2026
Al-Shorta has officially secured its second winter signing to strengthen its squad for the remainder of the current season, following the announcement of contracting an Algerian defender to reinforce its backline for the remaining matches in the Iraqi Stars League.

Al-Shorta officials had previously signed Abbas Fadhil, coming from Naft Maysan, who is a player of the Iraqi Olympic national team, awaiting to represent Emad Mohammed's squad in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

According to exclusive sources to the Win Win platform: "The club's management has strengthened its ranks by signing the 28-year-old Algerian defender Tarek Adwan to represent the team until the end of the season. He will arrive after midnight on Sunday to be at the disposal of Egyptian coach Moamen Suleiman, who is seeking stability in results by reinforcing the team with new signings."

The sources added: "Adwan will replace the Moroccan defender Mehdi Asahabi, whose season ended due to injury. The Al-Shorta club management agreed to mutually terminate his contract, making him no longer part of the team. Now, full opportunity will be given to the Algerian defender to prove himself, especially since his signing was approved by Al-Shorta's technical staff."

Regarding the Iraqi team's position in the winter transfer market, the sources clarified: "The team's signings will not stop here but will continue until at least two more players are added, a striker and a midfielder. The team is conducting intensive negotiations with several Arab and local players before making the appropriate decision and finalizing the new signings for the team, which has regained its strength with an important victory over Zakho in the Iraqi league."

They continued: "Currently, the management is working quietly to complete the new signings, especially given the intense competition with clubs like Al-Zawraa, Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, and Al-Talaba. A number of players are being offered to these teams, and the decision goes in favor of the club that pays the highest amounts. Therefore, the management does not want to reveal the names they are pursuing until the negotiations are complete and the deal is officially announced."
