Cancelo Pressures Barcelona to Finalize His Transfer
Wednesday 07-01-2026
The Spanish newspaper 'Sport' revealed that Portuguese full-back João Cancelo is pressuring Barcelona to obtain clear guarantees regarding signing him during the current winter transfer window, with another offer from Inter Milan through which the player seeks to finalize his future this week.

The Spanish newspaper explained that Cancelo is not part of his coach's plans at Saudi club Al Hilal, Simone Inzaghi, which makes the Saudi club ready to facilitate his departure on loan. The Portuguese international had offered himself to Barcelona, but the club has not yet made its final decision, prompting the player to increase pressure to get a quick response.

The newspaper pointed out that the technical management is studying the possibility of utilizing Cancelo in the right-back and left-back positions, despite the difficulty of playing him as a center-back, while coach Hans Flick prefers to sign a center-back with international experience or a promising player who has previously participated in a major league.

The newspaper continued that Barcelona has a deadline until Friday to activate the long-term absence clause for player Andreas Christensen, which will allow the club to move calmly in the market, with about three weeks remaining to complete any deal. Sport noted that Cancelo's salary is high at Al Hilal, but the Saudi club is ready to cooperate, and the player himself is willing to give up part of his dues.

The same source clarified that Cancelo's urgency comes after Inter Milan's recent warning, as the Italian club expressed its readiness to loan him and complete a swap deal with one of its defenders, providing economic opportunities for the club. The final decision is expected to be made by Flick and Deco in Saudi Arabia, where the Spanish Super Cup is being held and where the player is currently located.
