Amanat Baghdad team caused one of the biggest surprises of the round after achieving a valuable victory over Al-Shorta with a score of 2-1, in the match that brought them together within the Iraqi Stars League competitions, for the ninth round.

Al-Shorta entered the match with a clear advantage in possession and offensive pressure, trying to impose their style from the first minutes, while Amanat Baghdad relied on defensive retreat and playing on quick counterattacks.

In the 8th minute, Amanat team succeeded in exploiting a set piece from a long distance, which Uzbek player Bakhtiyor Qosimov converted into a wonderful goal, putting his team ahead and disrupting Al-Shorta’s plans early on.

After the goal, Al-Shorta intensified their offensive pressure seeking to equalize, and managed to do so in the 35th minute through Hussein Ali, who scored the equalizer, ending the first half 1-1.

At the start of the second half, Amanat Baghdad came back strongly and again succeeded in surprising Al-Shorta’s defense, as Bakhtiyor Qosimov scored his second personal goal in the 51st minute, giving his team the lead once more.

After the goal, Al-Shorta tried to return to the match through continuous pressure and making several offensive substitutions, but Amanat’s defensive organization prevented any change in the score.

In the 89th minute, Al-Shorta players thought they had equalized through Cameroonian Lionel Atiba, but the referee canceled the goal due to offside, and then blew the final whistle announcing Amanat’s victory amidst great joy from its players.

With this win, Amanat Baghdad raised its points to 15 in fifth place, while Al-Shorta’s points remained at 15 as well, in fourth place.
