The Spanish newspaper "Sport" revealed the truth about Barcelona's interest in signing Benfica's international Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi in the upcoming transfer market period.

According to the newspaper, Barcelona has shown no interest in the Argentine player, and no official contacts, negotiations, or even intentions to take future steps regarding signing him have taken place.

The source added that Otamendi is under contract with Benfica until the end of the current season, and the Portuguese club has no plans whatsoever to let him go due to his leadership role and importance within the team.

The Catalan club is considering strengthening its defense line in the next January transfer window after Andreas Christensen's injury, which will keep him out for a long period, as well as the situation of Ronald Araújo, who has been away from the team for several weeks.
