The Spanish newspaper "Sport" reported that Barcelona's German goalkeeper Ter Stegen has become a primary target for Girona, amid the absence of any negotiations with Aston Villa, who were previously believed to be interested in the goalkeeper during the current winter transfer window.

The newspaper explained that Aston Villa is not looking to sign a new goalkeeper this winter, as they have confidence in their current duo, Argentine Emiliano Martínez and Dutchman Marco Bizot, and consider the goalkeeper position to be complete.

The newspaper added that the summer option to compensate for a possible departure of Emiliano Martínez did not materialize, and the deal for Ter Stegen with Aston Villa remained only on paper after the Argentine international goalkeeper stayed for an additional season.

The newspaper confirmed that the relations between Barcelona and Aston Villa are good, but they do not involve any current negotiations regarding Ter Stegen or the Spanish defender Pau Torres, whose contract runs until 2028 and who is considered a key player for Aston Villa.

The report indicated that Girona is making a strong effort to secure Ter Stegen's transfer to their team, considering this move suitable for both clubs and in the best interest of the German goalkeeper, who is seeking a new opportunity to advance his career.
