Maresca Explains the Loss Against Aston Villa
Sunday 28-12-2025
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca appeared in a press statement after the 2-1 loss against Aston Villa in the eighteenth round of the English Premier League.

The coach said: "I believe we controlled the match for a full hour until we conceded the goal. We were at the peak of our performance. Unfortunately, after that, the dynamics of the game changed a bit. I think by the time they scored the equalizer at 1-1, we could have scored two or three more goals."

He added: "Did Aston Villa's changes in the middle of the second half affect the course of the match? Yes, they changed the dynamics of the game. Again, we could have scored more goals in the first half and the first 15 minutes of the second half."

Regarding whether Cole was substituted because of his physical condition: "No, I think he was putting in a lot of effort, but he was a bit tired. Overall, he played a good match."

He explained: "Did the lack of experience affect you? If we analyze the first hour of the match, we wouldn't talk about a lack of experience. But after that, we faced difficulties in this regard. The changes they made—Watkins, Onana, and Sancho—improved their performance slightly."

He concluded: "Did you have difficulty conveying any of your instructions due to not being on the front line because of the suspension? No, no, no. The communication was there. It wasn’t difficult."
