A Compelling Reason Behind Holding the King's Cup Semifinal During Ramadan
Friday 26-12-2025
Press reports have revealed the real reasons that led the Competitions Committee of the Saudi Football Federation to set the 27th and 28th of Ramadan as the dates for the King’s Cup semifinal matches.

This decision came after the two matches were originally scheduled for February 23 and 24, before a mandatory change was made to the competition schedule due to the postponement of the tenth round of the league.

The qualification of the Saudi national team to the Arab Cup semifinals necessitated a complete reorganization of the season's schedule, forcing the Competitions Committee to search for a suitable time window to hold the cup matches.

According to the schedule sequence, Round 25 of the Roshn League will be played on March 5, 6, and 7, followed by Round 26 on March 12, 13, and 14, making it difficult to hold the semi-final between the two rounds.

The crisis becomes more complicated with the involvement of the clubs Al-Hilal, Al-Ahli, and Al-Ittihad in playing the first leg of the Round of 16 in the Asian tournaments on March 2 and 3, followed by the second leg on March 9 and 10.

The newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat" pointed out that the short rest periods and the technical and medical readiness requirements of the clubs have closed off most options for the Competitions Committee.

The FIFA break from March 23 to 31 eliminates any chance of postponing the semifinal, especially with the 27th round of the Roshn League scheduled for early April, which further reduces the available time slots.
