Lorenzo Insigne is close to returning to the Italian league, as Lazio's management prepares to offer a short-term contract to bring the former Napoli captain back to Serie A.

According to the "Tutto Mercato" website, Lazio will benefit from the lifting of transfer restrictions, allowing the club to register the player who was unable to join last summer. The proposed contract extends for six months with an option to renew for an additional season, making Insigne available for the second half of the current season.

Insigne will reunite with coach Maurizio Sarri, under whose leadership he had his most prolific scoring period, netting twenty goals in all competitions during the 2016/2017 season. His performance under Sarri is considered the benchmark of his peak period, even though his best goal-scoring season in the Italian league was in 2020/2021 with Gattuso, when he scored 19 goals.

Lazio's management considers the deal low-risk, as it adds experience and creativity to the team without a long-term financial commitment, with the option to extend the contract if Insigne proves his impact on performance.
