The report indicated that coach Hans Flick prefers to sign a player if the opportunity arises to acquire the right central defender, but economic constraints make the choice difficult. Currently, the proposed candidates have not convinced the Catalan club, and the club has decided to wait for the chance to find an outstanding loan player before the winter transfer window closes.

Flick had tried to strengthen the defense during the summer transfer window after the departure of Iñigo Martínez, but faced financial restrictions that prevented signing a guaranteed replacement. He relied on a lineup including Eric Garcia, Koubarsi, Araújo, and Christensen. During the preseason, Flick also experimented with Gerard Martin as a left-back, and he has now become a regular starter in this position given the circumstances.

The report points out that Christensen’s long absence provides an opportunity to sign a new player, as 80% of his salary can be used for a loan. However, the available players are either not guaranteed or have not played much this season, making the management very cautious.

The club’s current strategy focuses on internal resources, with Ronald Araújo expected to return soon, while Marc Bernal will receive more minutes in the defensive midfield position, which could allow Eric Garcia to play as a central defender when needed.
