A major crisis erupted within Cameroonian football just days before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, as the federation plunged into severe organizational chaos due to an open conflict led by its president, Samuel Eto'o.

Disputes erupted between Eto'o and the national team coach Marc Brys, as the federation president informed the Belgian coach that his mission had ended, despite his contract officially continuing with the Ministry of Sports until September 2026.

The crisis caused unprecedented confusion after the Cameroonian federation, led by Eto'o, announced a list of 28 players and appointed David Ngog as the national team coach for the upcoming continental tournament.

The Eto'o squad witnessed shocking exclusions, most notably goalkeeper André Onana, striker Eric Choupo-Moting, as well as captain and top scorer Vincent Aboubakar, which sparked anger among fans and followers.

The situation worsened when Marc Brice refused to acknowledge his dismissal and announced a second squad for Cameroon, reinstating the previously excluded trio, affirming that he is still the legitimate coach of the "Indomitable Lions."

He accused Patrice Eto'o of deliberately excluding him and considered the exclusion of Aboubakar and Onana to be an illogical decision, emphasizing that any technical change requires an official decision from the presidency.

Historically, Eto'o's clashes with Bruys have never ceased; the Belgian coach previously threatened to resign after his assistant was dismissed, a move widely seen as a clear attempt to undermine his authority within the national team.
