Laporta, Enrique, and Valverde Give Their Testimonies in the Negreira Case
Friday 12-12-2025
The Spanish newspaper "Sport" reported that the investigations into the Negreira case are ongoing. Both Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, and coaches Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde are scheduled to give their testimonies next Friday. Laporta will appear in person at the courthouse in L'Hospitalet, while Enrique and Valverde will provide their testimonies via video conference.

According to the newspaper, the three were part of the club's system during the period of advance payments made to the former vice president of the Technical Refereeing Committee, Enríquez Nájera, which amounted to 8.4 million euros, as revealed by the tax agency and the public prosecutor's office in their investigations announced on February 15, 2023.

The newspaper clarified that FC Barcelona maintains its official position, affirming that the payments were intended solely to obtain reports on referees' performance, and that the club never sought to influence their decisions at any time. It also noted that no referee has filed a report indicating any attempt to influence them by the Catalan club.

Although the accounts of Barcelona officials and the referees in this case are consistent, the newspaper pointed out that there is significant pressure from Madrid, especially following the statements made by Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez at the club's recent assembly.

The newspaper pointed out that the judicial process is ongoing, with various parties continuing to give their testimonies before the court as part of the investigation.
