Spalletti: The First Half Was Embarrassing, and We Are Working on Improving Our Performance
Sunday 14-12-2025
Juventus secured an important 2-0 victory over Pafos in the sixth round of the UEFA Champions League group stage at Allianz Stadium. The team faced some difficulties in the first half, but their performance improved after tactical changes were made. After the match, coach Luciano Spalletti spoke about the team's performance and the future vision for developing the tactical lineup.

Spalletti said, "Winning was essential, and with the victory, things look much better."

Spalletti continued: "When analyzing the match, of course we have to do more. We are not satisfied, and the players are also not satisfied with themselves. Sometimes we only did the minimum, and some situations in the first half were frankly embarrassing."

He added: "The players relaxed a bit after the break, and we became calmer with the ball when making decisions."

Spalletti pointed to the importance of tactical changes and the introduction of Luis Openda to strengthen the attack, saying: "It also depends on the opponents. I tried to make some changes in the first half as well, but I was afraid of causing more confusion for the players. We practiced these things in training, and they worked well. We were more organized and more determined to achieve the win."

Spalletti continued his discussion about the team's defensive difficulties: "We have some challenges in defense, and we need a central defender who is skilled with his right foot, because Kalulu has to play as a full-back, and Weston is temporarily occupying that position. Cambiaso is an attacking player, and if he has to defend against stronger opponents, he faces some difficulties."

He added, "It's true that we gave Pafos many opportunities in the first half and made some minor mistakes, but they are part of our current reality."

He continued: "I want to develop this 4-2-3-1 formation in the future, but we need to have the right defender in order to play better from the back."
