Graham Arnold's First Comment After the Loss to Algeria
Saturday 13-12-2025
Australian coach Graham Arnold commented on his team's 2-0 loss to Algeria during the third round of the group stage of the Arab Cup Qatar 2025, held at Khalifa International Stadium.

After the defeat to Algeria on Tuesday evening, Iraq's national team remained with six points in second place in Group D, while the Algerian team succeeded in topping the group with seven points.

Arnold said in the post-match press conference: "The players did a great job tonight, especially after playing with ten men for 92 minutes. I couldn't be prouder of them. From this platform, I extend my thanks to them and hope they continue these efforts in the upcoming matches, as we have a lot ahead of us."

He added: "The players fought from the first minute after the red card received by the Lions of Mesopotamia team. We must forget this match and fully focus on the next game against Jordan. It is a tough encounter with many challenges, and our team must be fully prepared to face it."

He explained: "Our first goal was to reach the quarter-finals, and we achieved that. Our second goal is to continue and advance in the tournament towards the semi-finals. Why not aim for the title? But before all that, we need to reassess and review ourselves to perform well against Al-Nashama on Friday."

Arnold concluded by saying: "The development of the Jordanian team is remarkable; they are an organized team with very distinguished players. We will wait to see the injury status in the team before the match. I expect that the injury to Mohannad Ali 'Mimi' is concerning. Naturally, further examinations will be conducted, and things will become clearer."
