UEFA Prepares Strict Sanction Against Frankfurt
Spanish newspaper 'Sport' reported that UEFA is preparing to impose a strict penalty on Eintracht Frankfurt due to the behavior of its fans during the team's match against Barcelona in the Champions League, which ended 2-1.
The match witnessed some German fans engaging in uncivilized actions inside Spotify Camp Nou stadium, where some threw objects and cups and ignited fireworks, causing several disturbances in the stands despite the security measures taken by the Catalan club to prevent a repeat of the fan pitch invasion that occurred three years ago.
The report clarified that only 2,300 fans entered the area designated for visitors, but about a thousand of them attended without tickets and caused chaos during the match. The 'Sport' newspaper confirmed that UEFA was fully aware of these incidents, having received a detailed report from the match coordinator about the types and quantities of items thrown and the areas in the stands from which they were thrown.
The report indicated that the expected sanction will take into account the previous record of Eintracht Frankfurt's fans and will be strict in upcoming European competitions. It is worth mentioning that the procedure is similar to what happened with Barcelona after a Nazi flag appeared in the stands of Montjuïc Stadium, which resulted in a financial fine and the club being banned from selling tickets for its next Champions League match.
