Spalletti Before the Paphos Clash: We Respect an Opponent with a Lot of Quality
Wednesday 10-12-2025
Luciano Spalletti, the head coach, confirmed his full responsibility for the recent result ahead of the anticipated Paphos encounter in the Champions League, emphasizing that he did not choose the most suitable approach in the previous match against Napoli.

Spalletti said: "I chose to play this way against Napoli because I was convinced it was the right approach, but I did not get the result I wanted, and I take responsibility because my choices did not enable the players to perform at their best; rather, they harmed them."

Spalletti touched on the strength of the opponent, stressing that Paphos is not an easy team as some might think, explaining: "Paphos is a strong team, featuring many Brazilian and Portuguese players who know how to play football and have clear technical quality on the field."

He added: "Although they did not perform well against Bayern Munich, they conceded very few goals overall and played high-level matches against top opponents, which reflects their organization and defensive strength."

Regarding the frequent talk about the player Yildiz, Spalletti clarified his position, saying: "Either I was misunderstood or I did not explain my idea well. There is still a lot of potential that has not yet been discovered. Yildiz gives his all and improves match after match, but he has a huge scope for development in the future."
