A New Historic Number for Flick with Barcelona
Sunday 07-12-2025
Hans Flick achieved a new historic milestone with Barcelona by fielding the youngest lineup in the club's 95-year history in La Liga against Real Betis, according to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

The average age of the starting lineup reached 23.34 years in the 15th round of the Spanish league, a figure that has not been achieved for nearly a century.

The newspaper explained that the last time Barcelona fielded a younger lineup was on December 28, 1930, when the average age of the players was 23.09 years against Racing Santander. In the recent match against Betis, Flick included nine players aged 25 or younger, while Jules Koundé, aged 27, and Marcus Rashford, aged 28, were the oldest in the lineup.

The youngest participants in the meeting were Lamin Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, both 18 years old, followed by Roni Bardhi at 20 years old. Alejandro Balde was 22 years old, while Pedri and Gerard Martin were 23. Eric Garcia and Juan Garcia were both 24 years old, and Ferran Torres was 25.

The newspaper pointed out that this figure does not include the match on September 9, 1984, against Real Zaragoza, in which the average age of Barcelona's players was 20.69 years, because the team was composed of young players due to a players' strike, and therefore it is not counted among the official records.
