Sunday 07-12-2025
The Iraqi national team secured a ticket to the quarterfinals after achieving an important 2-0 victory over their Sudanese counterparts in the match held on Saturday evening as part of the second round of Group D in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025.

The first half ended goalless despite efforts from both sides, with the opening minutes marked by a clear tactical battle and a lack of the final touch to conclude attacks in front of the goal.

The decisive moments came in the second half when striker Muhannad Ali broke the deadlock by scoring Iraq's first goal in the 81st minute, following a precise pass which he finished to break down the Sudanese defense.

Amjad Atwan added the second goal just three minutes later, when he followed up on a rebound inside the penalty area and calmly placed the ball into the net, confirming the superiority of the Lions of Mesopotamia in the final minutes.

The Iraqi team raised its tally to 6 points, benefiting from its second win in the tournament after opening its campaign with a valuable 2-1 victory over Bahrain, thus officially securing progression to the next round as group leaders.

Sudan's team remained at one point in third place, unable to match Iraq's pace towards the end of the match, complicating their chances of competing for one of the qualifying spots.
