Arne Slot spoke in a press statement after the 1-1 draw against Sunderland in the 14th round of the English Premier League, held at Anfield Stadium.

The coach said: "It was a match in which we didn't concede many chances, nor did we create many. We were very unlucky with the goal we conceded. There was a deflection that changed the ball's direction and it could have gone anywhere, but given the period we are going through, it ended up in the net."

Regarding Federico Chiesa's intervention and his last-minute save: "He kept running, and that's why he cleared the ball off the goal line. We scored less than we could have, and the opponent was strong in the moments they had."

He added: "There is a reason why we cannot defeat them, and there is also a reason why other teams struggle against them."

Regarding the counting of Florian Wirtz's goal as an own goal: "He was also lucky, but it came from a chance he might have scored from. There weren't many opportunities for either team. We were very unlucky in the second half. In one moment, we conceded a goal, but we came back strongly."

He concluded about Mohamed Salah, who was on the bench for the second time: "It's not about Salah or any other player. I haven't yet thought about how we will play in the weekend match against Leeds. I have an idea about the starting lineup, but I won't announce it."
