The shocking moment occurred when the incident was not broadcast live on television, before a replay clearly showed Gueye slapping his teammate Keane on the face, in a controversial clip.

The refereeing center confirmed after the match that the sending-off decision was due to "violent conduct," explaining: "Idrissa, the Everton player, was sent off due to violent behavior, as he slapped his teammate Michael Keane on the face."
