Al-Ahli President Attacks Referee of Al-Qadsiah Match
Sunday 23-11-2025
Khaled Al-Ghamdi, president of the Saudi Al-Ahli Club, criticized the Spanish referee José Munuera, who officiated the Al-Qadsiah match yesterday, Friday.

Al Ahli defeated Al Qadsiah 2-1 in a match during the ninth round of the Saudi Professional League.

The match saw the sending off of Al-Ahli player Ziyad Al-Juhani in the first half for assaulting Portuguese player Otávio Monteiro of Al-Qadsiah off the ball.

Al-Ghamdi said in a television statement: "I congratulate the Al-Ahli nation on this level and this result. I don't know what to say, but I can say that the field was filled with lions. All respect, appreciation, and honor to them and for what they have achieved. I take my hat off to them; they were true champions."

He added: "Today we played under very, very, very difficult conditions. Al Ahly is struggling, but every time they prove that they are a strong team, unmatched, and capable of overcoming all circumstances, whether natural or unnatural."

He continued: "With this wonderful crowd attendance and this spirit, we will reach the farthest possible point in the current season."

He added, "There are many difficult circumstances. Al-Ahly is struggling, and it is not logical to have 5,000 cameras in the stadium and end up with this result. The truth is, this situation is painful in every sense of the word."

He continued: "But the black shirts on the field, as well as the technical and administrative staff, I tip my hat to them and offer them all my appreciation and respect. Al Ahly presented a truly magnificent performance today and proved that every player on the team is worth a thousand."

He continued: "It's not just this match that's the problem, we are doing our best, but if these are the referee's decisions after reviewing the video technology, I have no comment."

Al-Ghamdi criticized the referee's handling of the controversial incidents, saying: "If you review the video technology and find that the decision was wrong, what about the player who was diving and rolling on the ground for 5 kilometers? How can he be allowed to get away with that? Especially since the chances that came afterward were dealt with in the same way."

He concluded: "It's not just about understanding the rules, but also about the referee's character and their ability to control the match from the very first minute, whether it's against us or the opposing team. I don't know what else to say, but I'm tired of talking about this matter."
