Financial War Between Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain
A new legal dispute has erupted between Kylian Mbappé and his former club Paris Saint-Germain, after the club officially requested compensation of 180 million euros due to what it described as a lost opportunity following the player's rejection of a substantial transfer offer in July 2023. This was reported by the Spanish newspaper "Sport" in its coverage of the case.
This came before Mbappé's free transfer to Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 after his contract expired without a fee.
Paris Saint-Germain is facing a lawsuit from the player himself, who is demanding 240 million euros due to the reclassification of his contract and accusing the club of engaging in psychological harassment during the final months of their relationship.
During a session at the Paris Labor Court, Kylian Mbappé's lawyer, Delphine Verheyden, condemned what she described as psychological and media pressure exerted by the club on the player after he refused to extend his contract until 2025. She asserted that the agreement the club claims for the contract extension is invalid because it was not ratified.
The lawyer indicated that Mbappe went through a terrible period after being told he would not play again if he did not renew his contract, noting that he was excluded from the first team in the summer of 2023 before returning after the first round of the 2023/2024 season.
According to Paris Saint-Germain's account, the player's return was based on an agreement where he would forgo part of his dues to help maintain the club's financial stability. However, his lawyer completely denies this narrative and also refutes receiving any official Saudi offer worth 300 million euros.
Verheiden clarified that the Saudi offer mentioned by the club "never reached my desk and was never officially presented to him."
Mbappé, the captain of the French national team, is demanding 55 million euros in unpaid bonuses and salaries. His lawyers argue that if his contract were converted to an indefinite term contract, he would be entitled to greater compensation, raising his claims to 240 million euros.
