Rashford Shines in Corner Kicks but Fails in Free Kicks
Thursday 13-11-2025
The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' reported that English player Marcus Rashford, on loan to Barcelona, has proven highly effective in executing corner kicks, having contributed three assists out of four goals scored by the team from set pieces this season, while he has yet to score any goals from direct free kicks despite taking the last six attempts for the team.

The newspaper clarified that Rashford, 27 years old, came to compensate for the absence of Ansu Fati and to relieve pressure on Raphinha in the left-wing position, noting that the player is having an exceptional season with his clear attacking performance, having scored 6 goals and assisted 8 others, making his tally very positive compared to his previous seasons.

Mundo Deportivo added that Rashford has changed the nature of set pieces at Barcelona, mastering the delivery of corner kicks whether curving from the left side as he did against Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad, or curling from the right side as in the match against Oviedo, benefiting from his passes are Lewandowski, Araújo, and Koundé.

As for direct free kicks, the newspaper indicated that the player has not succeeded in converting them into goals, with the closest being a shot that hit the post against Girona, and mentioned that the last goal he scored from a free kick was with Manchester United in October 2019 against Chelsea, among only four goals he has scored this way throughout his career.

The newspaper also noted that Rashford has a strong and distinctive shot known as the 'dry paper', expecting that he will soon be able to score his first goal from a free kick with Barcelona, as the team continues to search for a specialist in set pieces.
