The Iraqi national team will begin its training camp tomorrow, Friday, in the capital Baghdad, in preparation for the upcoming matches against the UAE national team, as part of the final stage of the Asian playoff qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Lions of Mesopotamia will play the first leg against the UAE on the 13th of November at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, while the return match will be at Basra International Stadium on the 18th.

In this context, Iraqi coach Khalaf Karim said: "Coach Graham Arnold should focus from the beginning of the gathering on the psychological aspects of the players, as this will be the most important factor in determining the outcome of the two matches. The Iraqi national team has no choice but to win, as the fans will not tolerate another disappointment."

Karim added: "In my opinion, the Iraqi national team should think about securing the match from the first leg and not wait for the Basra match, as surprises are possible in the return leg. They must play with high concentration in Abu Dhabi and strive for a comfortable result, then approach the return match with ease."

Khalaf Karim pointed out that the fans in Basra will be the strongest weapon for the Lions of Mesopotamia in the return match. The Iraqi audience is known for its great support and will be present in large numbers at Basra Stadium to support the team. This match could be an opportunity to erase past failures and regain confidence.

Khalaf concluded his remarks by saying: "My advice to coach Arnold is to choose the lineup and strategy he sees fit without paying attention to any external pressures or opinions. He has gotten to know the players' levels well and knows their capabilities."
