Flick Plans to Experiment with a New Midfield Duo at Barcelona

Barcelona's head coach, Hans Flick, is preparing to make an important adjustment to the team's formation during the match against Elche tomorrow evening, Sunday, at the Montjuïc Stadium, as part of the Spanish league competition, according to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo".
The newspaper reported that Flick is considering relying on a new midfield duo consisting of Casado and Frenkie de Jong, to compensate for the absence of Pedri, who will be out for a month due to a muscle injury. It clarified that this duo has not played together before in the double pivot position during the current season.
Casado had played alongside de Jong in the Girona match, but the Dutchman participated then in the playmaker position, not in defensive midfield. If Flick does not rely on Casado, the available alternatives include Eric Garcia or the young midfielder from the reserve team, 19-year-old Tommy Marquez.
Mundo Deportivo added that the match against Elche may also see the return of the duo Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo, after recovering from injury, although their participation from the start is uncertain. It noted that Olmo's return is good news for the team, especially in light of Pedri's absence, while Lewandowski is looking to regain his form after missing the last three matches.
The report emphasized that Barcelona is counting on the return of its injured stars to regain its attacking strength, especially since Lewandowski, who scored 42 goals last season, is experiencing his worst start in 15 years, having only scored four goals this season due to injuries.
