Referee Expert Resolves Controversy Over Sadio Mane's Non-Red Card Against Al-Hazm
Sunday 26-10-2025
Egyptian referee analyst Mohamed Kamal Risha confirmed that the referee's decision not to send off Senegalese Sadio Mane during the match between Al-Nasr and Al-Hazm in the Saudi Roshan League was legally and refereeing correct.

Risha explained that the controversial incident involved a light stamp from Mane on the foot of defender Abdulaziz Al-Harbi, but the point of contact was on the instep, not in a sensitive or unprotected area like the ankle or Achilles tendon.

He indicated that the force used was extremely limited, as the movement was made with the tip of the shoe only without pressure or using the bottom of the foot, which means the situation does not rise to the level of excessive violence or aggressive behavior.

He added that the referee acted according to the VAR protocol when he reviewed the incident, and after careful evaluation issued a yellow card to Mane, a decision that aligns with the spirit of the law.

The referee expert emphasized that the intervention was not intentional to harm the opponent, but resulted from a natural playing movement, which negates the justifications for issuing a red card.

Risha concluded his remarks by stating that the referee's decision is completely consistent with the regulations of the International Football Association in such cases, affirming that the yellow card was a sufficient and fair penalty without the need for a red card.
