Al-Qadisiyah Coach Regrets Losing Al-Ahli Star
Thursday 23-10-2025
Spanish coach Mitchel Gonzalez, the head of the Saudi Al-Qadisiyah team, acknowledged his mistake in allowing player Saleh Abu Al-Shamat to join Al-Ahli during the last summer transfer window, confirming that the player is performing exceptionally well this season.

Gonzalez explained during the press conference held before the match against Al-Akhudud in the sixth round of the Roshan Saudi League that his decision to agree to Abu Al-Shamat's transfer was hasty and not well thought out, pointing out that the player has shown clear technical and mental maturity since joining Al-Ahli.

The Spanish coach added that he was not patient enough with the player and admitted that coaches sometimes make incorrect decisions, stating: "I rushed to sell him, and if he had stayed with us, he would have been one of the key pillars of the team today."

Gonzalez expressed his admiration for what Abu Al-Shamat is doing with Al-Ahli and the national team, noting that the remarkable performance the player is delivering makes him feel regretful about losing him, but he emphasized his confidence in the other team members, especially Mohamed Abu Al-Shamat, Saleh's brother, whom the club does not intend to let go.

Regarding the upcoming match against Al-Akhudud, the Spanish coach stressed the importance of mental and technical focus, explaining that his team seeks to approach every match with a fresh mentality without being affected by the results of previous rounds, affirming his strong confidence in his players' abilities and their determination to win.

He concluded his remarks by pointing out that Al-Akhudud has clear defensive issues, but it is a team not to be underestimated due to its strength in counterattacks, confirming that Al-Qadisiyah is ready to handle all scenarios to achieve a positive result.

The Al-Qadisiyah team will host its counterpart Al-Akhudud next Saturday at 5:40 PM local time in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, as part of the sixth round of the Roshan Saudi League, where Al-Qadisiyah occupies the second place with 13 points from 4 wins and 1 draw.
