Manchester City player Rico Lewis appeared in a press statement after the victory over Villarreal 2-0 in the third round of the Champions League group stage.

The player said: "We felt in control for most of the match. There is always something we can do better, and we believe that some of the chances they had could have been avoided, but we have to be strict with ourselves, as we want to win the tournament. I’m happy with a clean sheet and the win."

Regarding his role in midfield: "I always feel happy when I play there, and the coach knows that. I think this is the area where I have a significant impact on the game."

On Erling Haaland: "It's impossible to describe him; he’s amazing. Playing with him in the team helps us more than people realize. He attracts defenders to free up other defenders, which gives him the freedom to score. It's impossible to defend against him. He works extremely hard and never stops wanting to score."

About Manchester City returning to its best form: "I think we’ve regained some confidence. When you play with confidence, nothing can stop you but yourself. Everyone trusts each other as well, and there’s nothing better than supporting each other."

On City's first away win in the Champions League in over a year: "I didn't know that - the coach only said it was important to get an early win away. This relieves some pressure and puts us in a good position for the next match, but we have to win them all - whether at home or away."
