Gasperini: Some defeats give us more faith in our strength and abilities
Gian Piero Gasperini, coach of Roma, confirmed that the early loss to Inter Milan will not affect the team's confidence, emphasizing that some defeats give players more faith and conviction in their abilities.
Gasperini said: "It was a mistake to take a risk in the Bonny situation, it wasn't a dangerous chance and perhaps we weren't in the right position at the start of the match; these things happen sometimes after an international break."
He added: "That situation was crucial and determined the outcome of the match, but aside from the result, I am convinced of the team's performance and we will deliver a good level. We tried in every way to equalize against a strong team like Inter, and it is natural to face some difficulties."
He continued: "There are some defeats that give you more faith and conviction in your capabilities."
The coach referred to the adjustments he made due to Angelino's absence: "I placed Hermoso and Ndicka in different defensive roles, pushed Zeki Celik forward, and moved Wesley to the left side. I believe the defense performed well tonight, and our pressure from the flanks was better than in previous matches."
Regarding the human moment after the match with Inter's coach Cristian Chivu, he said: "I was fortunate to get to know Chivu during my brief time at Inter; we also met when he was coaching Parma, successfully presenting his ideas, as we saw tonight."
Gasperini added that Napoli's loss to Torino was an opportunity for Roma to take the lead, but he confirmed that both teams are now equal with Inter at 15 points, with the possibility of Juventus or Milan topping the table if they win their matches on Sunday.
