Saturday 18-10-2025
Egyptian coach Imad Al-Nahas informed the players of Al-Zawraa of his main goals for the current season after officially taking over the team's leadership following coach Abdul Ghani Shahid, confirming that his ambition is to compete for local titles and advance far in the AFC Champions League 2.

Al-Nahas arrived in Baghdad at dawn on Friday, accompanied by his assistant coaching staff, which includes Mohamed Mohsen Abu Jreisha as assistant coach and Mohamed Fathi as goalkeeper coach, to begin his duties with the team in preparation for upcoming challenges.

Upon his arrival, Al-Nahas held a meeting with the players of Al-Nawras before the team's first training session, where he spoke to them with enthusiasm and ambition, saying:

"I am very happy to work here at Al-Zawraa, this great club that we have heard so much about in Egypt and other Arab countries. My ambition is to win always, and we will start from the next match against Istiklol Dushanbe of Tajikistan, because our goal is to collect three points and advance in the AFC Champions League 2, and we are capable of that with confidence."

He added: "Al-Zawraa has a distinguished group of players, and with this lineup, we can achieve championships. Our goal is clear, which is to compete for the Iraqi Stars League title, as well as to present a strong performance in the Asian championship. We must work hard and double our efforts in training and work as one spirit to make the club's fans happy."

In an important administrative step, the management of Al-Zawraa Club decided to appoint former star Hossam Fawzi as assistant to coach Imad Al-Nahas, due to his extensive experience and precise knowledge of all the details of the team.

The match against Istiklol Dushanbe of Tajikistan is scheduled for next Wednesday at Hissor Central Stadium, marking the official debut of coach Imad Al-Nahas with Al-Zawraa, in a match in which the team seeks to confirm its strong presence in the Asian championship.

Al-Zawraa currently occupies the second place in its group in the AFC Champions League 2 with 3 points, tied with Istiklol Dushanbe, but ahead on goal difference, while both teams lost to Al-Nassr Saudi Arabia in the opening round.

On the local front, Al-Zawraa is still searching for its first victory in the Iraqi Stars League, as it occupies the sixteenth place with only 2 points from three matches played so far, which increases the challenge for Al-Nahas to lead the team back to the path of victories.
