Friday 17-10-2025
The Barcelona City Council has officially granted FC Barcelona the initial occupancy permit for Spotify Camp Nou in Phase 1A, which allows for the attendance of 27,000 spectators in the main stand and the southern side of the first tier, according to the Spanish newspaper "AS".

Although the club has received the green light to return to its historic stadium, the Catalan management will not rush to move from Montjuïc Stadium, as they prefer to wait until Phase 1B is approved, which will increase the capacity to 47,000 spectators, allowing for increased revenue while maintaining the current income level from the Olympic Stadium.

The newspaper clarified that the next phase includes the side stand required by UEFA in order for Camp Nou to host Champions League matches, noting that UEFA may grant Barcelona a special exemption allowing them to play matches in more than one stadium during the group stage.

For her part, Elena Fort, the club's vice president and responsible for the Espai Barça project, confirmed in her statements that the approval of the next phase is a matter of time, explaining that the construction work has already been completed, and what remains is to finalize the administrative procedures.

Fort added that the club hopes to return to Camp Nou by the end of November, either for the match against Athletic Bilbao or Getafe, which could coincide with the 126th anniversary of the club's founding, emphasizing that the return will represent a recovery for the club on emotional and economic levels.
