Spanish newspaper 'AS' revealed that Barcelona's goalkeeper and captain Marc-André ter Stegen is continuing to work diligently to regain his full fitness in preparation for returning to participate in matches next January, after a long absence due to a back injury.

The newspaper clarified that ter Stegen underwent a second surgery last July to address issues in his lower back, and since then he has been committed to an intensive rehabilitation program within the facilities of the Catalan club, hoping to be ready under coach Hans Flick at the beginning of the new year.

The same source added that the German goalkeeper has a strong desire to continue his career with Barcelona, as his contract extends until 2028, and he sees himself capable of competing fiercely to reclaim his starting position against young goalkeeper Juan Garcia.

The newspaper confirmed that ter Stegen is aware of the importance of returning in a timely manner, especially with the upcoming World Cup approaching, as he seeks to regain his form to be ready to defend the colors of the German national team in the tournament.
