Liverpool in Talks to Sign Borussia Dortmund Defender
Saturday 11-10-2025
Journalist "Davy O'Koub" revealed that Liverpool has held talks to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, in preparation for the upcoming winter transfer window, following the injury of young defender Giovanni Leoni, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear that will keep him out for the entire season.

This move comes to compensate for the loss of a defensive option and to strengthen the center-back position, especially after Liverpool's failure to sign Marc Guéhi during the summer transfer window, knowing that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are monitoring Schlotterbeck as a free transfer option.

According to reports, Liverpool has shown serious interest in the German defender and has engaged in positive discussions with his representatives regarding a move to Anfield. Schlotterbeck is noted for his ability to build play from the back and his defensive strength, making him suitable for the requirements of the modern center-back position.

Since joining Dortmund in 2023 for €30 million from Freiburg, Schlotterbeck has participated in over 100 matches with the club and has also played 20 international matches for the German national team since his debut in March 2024.

Dortmund is also seeking to renew his contract with an improved salary, with the current offer estimated at €8 million with potential bonuses exceeding €9 million, noting that his current contract expires in June 2027.

The talks remain in their early stages, and Liverpool continues to evaluate several players to strengthen the center-back position, with Schlotterbeck being one of the primary options.
