Barcelona and the Dream of Signing Alvarez: Will it Come True or Remain Out of Reach?
Saturday 11-10-2025
The Spanish club Barcelona continues to monitor Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, a player from Atletico Madrid, as part of its future plans to strengthen the attack. However, the current financial situation of the club makes completing the deal complicated, according to the website "Fichajes."

The site explained that the accumulated debts on Barcelona, which amount to about 159 million euros from previous deals, pose an obstacle to any new major signing. These debts include amounts owed to several clubs, most notably Leeds United (41.9 million euros for the Raphinha deal), Bayern Munich (20 million for Lewandowski), Sevilla (24.5 million for Kounde), and Manchester City (13.3 million for Ferran Torres).

The report added that the market value of Julian Alvarez exceeds 100 million euros, making signing him almost impossible at the moment, despite the club president Joan Laporta's admiration for his abilities and his vision as a potential successor to Lewandowski.

In light of these difficulties, Barcelona is considering other alternatives to bolster its attack, including Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy, a player from Borussia Dortmund, who could be available for 65 million euros instead of 100 million, according to German reports.

Although the Catalan club has made progress in reducing its debts and improving its revenues to approach one billion euros, its current financial commitments still pose a significant challenge to its ambitions in the transfer market.

Thus, Barcelona's dream of signing Julian Alvarez remains alive, but it is postponed until financial conditions allow it to be realized.
