Iraqi National Team Sets Its Priorities Before Facing Indonesia
Friday 10-10-2025
The Iraqi national team is putting the final touches before facing the Indonesian team tomorrow, Saturday, at King Abdullah International Stadium in Jeddah, at 10:30 PM local time, as part of the first matches of the Lions of Mesopotamia in the crucial Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Iraqi team is seeking to achieve its first victory in the qualifiers to enhance its chances of qualifying for the World Cup, especially with several advantages giving it the upper hand against its Indonesian opponent.

Iraqi coach Waleed Karim told winwin: "The Iraqi team will enter tomorrow's match fully prepared, and in a better condition than the Indonesian side, which played a tough match against Saudi Arabia last Wednesday. This advantage must be translated on the field, and coach Graham Arnold will have a significant responsibility in properly utilizing his players and working to secure the win, nothing less, to avoid complicated calculations."

He added: "Arnold gained significant benefits by watching the Indonesia vs. Saudi Arabia match, as this tactical reading helped him outline the team's technical path and prioritize aspects including defensive caution and playing on crosses and headers, to score one or two goals against the opponent."

Karim pointed out: "The result of the Saudi Arabia vs. Indonesia match, with the Saudi green winning by a single goal, gave Iraq an advantage on paper, and thus winning by a two-goal margin against the Indonesians will give the Lions of Mesopotamia an advantage in the upcoming match against Saudi Arabia, because in the event of a tie with the green, Iraq will be able to qualify for the World Cup, which is a significant priority for Arnold."

He concluded by saying: "Despite all the calculations and numbers, the two qualifying matches may be decided by small details or unexpected circumstances, so the players must consider the worst-case scenarios to avoid surprises that could affect their mentality and aspirations for victory, especially since Iraqi fans are following the next two matches with anticipation and passion."
