The Fifteenth Victory.. A Dream Haunting the Lions on the Night of Bahrain

Thursday 09-10-2025
The Moroccan national team hosts its Bahraini counterpart this evening, Thursday, October 9, 2025, in an international friendly match that kicks off at 8:00 PM local time (GMT+1) at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Sports Complex in the capital, Rabat.

This match comes as part of the Atlas Lions' preparations for upcoming challenges, following the absence of official matches due to Eritrea's withdrawal from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Moroccan team, led by coach Walid Regragui, aims to achieve its fifteenth consecutive victory, a number that has only been reached historically by the teams of Germany and Spain, which gives the match a special competitive character despite its friendly nature.

If Morocco wins against Bahrain, it will come close to breaking the world record when it faces the Democratic Republic of Congo next Tuesday in Rabat, in the final round of the African qualifiers for the World Cup, thus becoming the first team to achieve 16 consecutive victories since the new qualifying system was adopted.

During the last press conference, Regragui downplayed the significance of the numbers, saying: "We will not eat bread with the record, but it is good to achieve it," emphasizing that the series of positive results reflects mental discipline and team spirit within the group.

The Moroccan coach sees the match as a suitable opportunity to test some new names, especially in light of the absence of several key players due to injury, including Noussair Mazraoui, Azzedine Ounahi, and Sofyan Amrabat.
