According to reports, a verbal agreement has been reached between the two parties covering all details related to the new contract, with official procedures pending for its signing and announcement in the coming days.

According to Romano's report on his official account on X platform, the Dutch star will sign a new contract with the Catalan club, which will extend until June 2029.

This extension comes months before the expiration of De Jong's current contract in the summer of 2026, as Barcelona aims to ensure the retention of one of the key elements of its midfield in the long-term project of coach Hans Flick.
