La Liga has announced the match between Villarreal and Barcelona, part of the 17th round, to be held on December 20, 2025, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, marking a historic first for the competition.

Javier Tebas, President of La Liga, stated: "With this match, we take a historic step that brings La Liga and Spanish football to a new dimension. We understand the concerns that this step may raise, but it remains just one match out of 380 in the season. Our goal is to bring our league closer to fans around the world, giving them the opportunity to see their teams up close without harming the fans who support us weekly in Spain."

This move comes after years of coordination and dialogue with the relevant parties, supported by the participating clubs, aiming to expand the fan base globally and enhance the status of La Liga as one of the best leagues in the world, especially with the upcoming 2026 World Cup hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The match will take place at Hard Rock Stadium, which accommodates over 65,000 spectators, with presale tickets starting on October 21, and official ticket sales beginning on October 22.

This step represents a pivotal moment in La Liga's strategy to enhance its presence in North America and confirm the position of Spanish football as a global leader.
