The Al-Ahly club announced its contract with Danish Yas Sorob to take over the leadership of the first football team in the upcoming phase, succeeding the late Jose Ribeiro, for a period of two and a half years.

He managed the Belgian team Gent for two seasons, reaching the Round of 16 in the Europa League but was eliminated by Roma after a 1-1 draw in Belgium and a 0-1 loss in Italy in 2020.
After that, Sorob took over the coaching of Genk in Belgium for six matches before receiving an offer from the Danish club Copenhagen, and a release clause was paid allowing him to leave.
During his two seasons with Copenhagen, Sorob succeeded in winning the Danish league and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
His last stop was with Augsburg in Germany, lasting two seasons, where he achieved the best points average in the last 10 years and the best defense in the Bundesliga in the second half of last season.
Sorob led Augsburg in October 2023 and left in May 2025 after leading the team in 65 matches, achieving 23 victories, 17 draws, and 25 defeats.
