Barcelona Announces Match Against Girona at Montjuïc
FC Barcelona announced in an official statement on Tuesday evening that the team's match against Girona, part of the ninth round of the Spanish league scheduled for Saturday, October 18, will take place at Montjuïc Stadium, rather than at 'Spotify Camp Nou' as originally planned.
The club clarified that the reason for this is the delay in obtaining the necessary administrative licenses to reopen 'Camp Nou', noting that it is in constant communication with the Barcelona municipality to complete the required inspections.
The statement confirmed that the club expects to soon obtain the phase 1A license (which pertains to the main stand and the goal stand) that allows for approximately 27,000 spectators, but it prefers to return to 'Camp Nou' after obtaining the phase 1B license, which will increase the capacity to 45,000 spectators.
This decision is based on three main reasons:
The delay in issuing the phase 1A license made its timing very close to that of phase 1B.
The capacity of the renovated Montjuïc Stadium allows for higher financial returns than those achieved at Johan Cruyff Stadium.
The club has been given additional time to conduct all necessary operational tests before returning.
The club concluded its statement by thanking its members and fans for their understanding and support during this important and exciting transitional phase on the way back to 'Spotify Camp Nou' in its new form.
