
Officially.. Atletico Madrid signs Mateo Alemany
Atletico Madrid announced today the appointment of Mateo Alemany as the Director of Football for the team, to be part of Carlos Bousquet's team, the general director of football, overseeing all matters related to the first team and the academy teams.
Alemany has a rich career in Spanish football, having started his journey at Real Mallorca in 1990 and gradually rising through the ranks to become the club's president in 2000. During his tenure, the team won the Copa del Rey in 2003 and achieved its best position in La Liga (third place in the 1998-99 season), and participated in the European Cup Winners' Cup final.
Alemany returned to the presidency of Mallorca again in 2009, and later served as the general director of Valencia from 2017 to 2019, where the team won the Copa del Rey in 2019.
Mateo held the position of Director of Professional Football at Barcelona from March 2021 until September 2023, during which the team won the Spanish League 2022-23, the Copa del Rey 2021, and the Spanish Super Cup 2023.
The club concluded: "Alemany began his duties this morning with a visit to the training center in Majadahonda, where he met with coach Diego Simeone and spoke with the first team players."
