Al-Zawraa Heads Towards a Fateful Decision After Losing to Al-Jaish
The management of Al-Zawraa Club is considering a fateful decision in the coming days following the painful loss to their traditional rival Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya with a score of 2-0, in the top match of the fourth round of the Iraqi Stars League 2025-2026, which took place on Sunday evening at the International City Stadium amidst a large audience presence in the capital Baghdad.
Informed sources told the winwin website that "the management of Al-Zawraa feels a deep dissatisfaction with the current state of the team, especially since the Al-Nawaris squad has not achieved any victory after four rounds of the competition, having played only three matches, drawing two and losing one, while their match against Al-Shorta, the defending champion of the last edition, has been postponed to a later date."
The sources added: "The overall situation in the team is extremely concerning, and the management is facing increasing pressure from the fans, especially after the lackluster performance in the classic match, where fans believe the team lacks a clear identity and the entertaining style of play they are accustomed to, despite the significant signings the club made during the last summer transfer window."
The sources clarified that "the technical committee within the club has submitted its complete report on the team's performance, which included a recommendation to change the coaching staff led by coach Abdul Ghani Shahed, who has not been able to achieve the required harmony among the players despite sufficient time since the beginning of the season."
It was also revealed that "Shahed's recent statements, in which he hinted at the presence of players he does not wish to keep in the team, have heightened tensions in the dressing room and negatively affected the overall atmosphere, prompting the management to see that continuing in this manner is not possible and that the most suitable solution is to terminate his contract during the current international break."
The sources continued: "The management has already begun studying several alternative options, as they are looking for a coach with a strong personality who can handle the psychological and technical aspects with the players, in addition to being able to restore balance to the team as quickly as possible, especially with the crucial rounds of the Iraqi Stars League approaching."
Since the start of the season, Al-Zawraa has only achieved one victory, which was against Al-Jo Al-Hindi in the AFC Champions League 2, while losing to Al-Nassr Saudi Arabia in the same tournament, and locally drawing against Al-Talaba and Al-Karma, before suffering a painful defeat against Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya in the classic match.
