Injury of Azeddine Ounahi Threatens His Participation Against Barcelona
Saturday 04-10-2025
The Girona team has suffered a significant blow after confirming the absence of Moroccan international Azeddine Ounahi from the match against Valencia on Saturday evening, as part of the eighth round of the Spanish league for the 2025-2026 season, while awaiting confirmation regarding his participation in the Catalan derby against Barcelona on October 14.

The Catalan club announced in a brief statement that their Moroccan midfielder is suffering from an injury to his left calf muscle, clarifying that the duration of his absence will be determined based on the development of his medical condition in the coming days.

The team's statement read: “Azeddine Ounahi is suffering from an injury to his left calf muscle, and his condition will be evaluated to determine the date of his return to collective training.”

The injury has also deprived Ounahi of being with the Moroccan national team, as coach Walid Regragui excluded him from the list of the “Atlas Lions” for the friendly matches against Bahrain and Congo in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The player's absence is viewed as a significant loss both for Girona, which relies on his abilities in midfield during its local struggle, and for the Moroccan national team, which depends on him as one of the key pillars in its project towards the World Cup.
